Winter Heroes
Gustavo Eydelsteyn, Co-founder
The Winter Olympics are in full swing with team USA currently holding the lead with 14 medals. The games continue until February 28th, so it can be any country's win. Regardless of the medal count, the Olympians continue to inspire me. Since the first Olympic Winter Games held in 1924, in Chamonix, France, countless heroes and legends have been made. From speed skater Olympian of the Century Bonnie Blair to the Olympian skier "Iceman" Dale Begg-Smith, athletes have pushed themselves to new levels and inspired millions.

While the Olympians show their determination in the rinks and slopes of Vancouver, our developers have been pushing ahead in our labs with the upcoming release of Studio Enterprise 2010. The new release of Studio Enterprise will take advantage of powerful new .NET 4.0 features and improve the design-time experience allowing developers to do more with less code in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. While our products won't help you winter athleticism, they are the tools you need to succeed. Just as a downhill skier needs his/her poles to compete, developers need the right components in their toolbox to create applications that will stand out above the rest. To see all that's coming in 2010 and go for the Gold in your own arena, check out our roadmaps in this issue's "What's New" section below.

Migrating to Palomino: from C1WebGrid to C1GridView
Raleigh Johnson, Technical Engagement Engineer
In recent months, you may have noticed some changes within the Studio for ASP.NET including the addition of new controls and utilities like Foxy for ASP.NET, our visual style designer for the ASP.NET controls. Some of these additions are entirely new concepts for the Studio for ASP.NET, while others have existing counterparts that they will be replacing. The C1GridView is a prime example of the latter, as it will be replacing the C1WebGrid in the months to come. |
The C1GridView and our other new controls, collectively referred to as our Palomino controls, are fully AJAX-enabled and take advantage of many promising technologies like CSS, XHTML, and more. For many of you this may seem unsettling, especially those of you who have been using our ASP.NET controls for several years now; however, there is no need to fret as this article will walk you through the C1WebGrid to C1GridView migration. Tech Tips
|
FlexGrid for WinForms Tip: Use the Redraw Property to Increase Performance
Every time a cell value is changed or rows and columns are added or removed from the grid, some calculations are performed in order to
recalculate the grid layout and update the display. You can increase performance significantly by setting the Redraw property to False before
you start updating the grid contents, and setting it back to True when the changes are complete. |
|
Studio for ASP.NET Tip: Styling Your Controls
Use App_Themes to create a skin for all of your ComponentOne controls. This will allow you to change the Visual Style of every control
from one place. |
